To simplify window comparisons, the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) rates the U-Factor, Solar Heat Gain and air leakage. In all cases, a lower number rating offers the most protection and energy savings. Look for a higher number when comparing condensation and visible transmission (VT) ratings.
Before selecting windows for your home, be sure to take into consideration your climate, maintenance requirements and performance expectations. A good rule of thumb is to buy windows offering the best efficiency, warranty and performance you can afford.
